07 Jun WCW- Lindsey Mensch
Jon and I have been on the invite list to some pretty important parties these days, First Birthdays! Our friends have tarted having kids, and we have had so much fun watching them grow! It’s a whole new world for us, we don’t have nieces or nephews and most of our extended families have older children. We never realized how much goes in to children’s parties before, but now it’s so much fun to see the different activities and decor at each one!
In the city, many of my clients have mentioned the lack of space for these parties. Most of my clients also work full time, so the amount of effort and time that goes in to planning can be a little much. Imagine my excitement, meeting Lindsey Mensch, the owner of Lili Marie Parties!
Lili Marie Parties specializes in planning Children’s Parties, Baby Showers, and other Events in Chicago. They have multiple options to truly customize each event, from Complete Party Planning Packages to Party Trunks. I absolutely love these Party Trunks, delivered to you with decor and step-by-step instructions for day of setup! These make the theme of your event effortless and it cuts down on the waste of disposable decorations!
Meet Lindsey Mensch, owner of Lili Marie Parties
When did you decide you wanted to start your business?
For a long time I had been helping friends and family organize and decorate their parties as a hobby. I specifically loved helping with children’s parties because I got to go crazy with creativity and color (two of my favorite things). At most, if not all of the parties I helped with, parents would come up to me and ask if I could help with their upcoming party. I could always see the panicked look in their eye as they even thought about their giant birthday party To-Do list. Mom’s and Dad’s have so much on their plate these days, that I could see they were no longer enjoying their child’s birthday parties. I realized what a big need in the party industry for supplying help with kids’ parties My goal was and still is, to make Mom & Dad feel like a guest at their own party.
Who has been your biggest mentor and what have you learned from them?
Not so much my mentor, but this is definitly the person who gave me the confidence and the encouragement to take such a big risk and start my own business. Quitting your steady job that has great health insurance, a 401K and paid time off, to venture into an unknown world with no guarantees, is terrifying. My Mom has definitly been my biggest cheerleader from the very beginning. I can honestly say I don’t think I would have had the guts to take such a big risk if I did not have that steady encouragement from my Mom.
What would you consider to be your biggest success?
A year and a half ago I was in Mexico for my sister’s wedding and I got a call from the Steve Harvey Show asking if I would like to appear on an upcoming episode they were filming. They were looking for an event planner to be a guests on their show. I was absolutely shocked that one of the producers found me online and picked me to reach out to, out of all the other amazing event planners here in Chicago. That was definitly the moment when I realized my little hobby had turned into something real.
Where would you like to see your business go in the next year?
I would really like to do more collaborative projects with other businesses and entrepreneurs. Partnering up with other passionate business owners is always such an energizing experience. Sometimes as a sole business owner I get tunnel vision in my own way of thinking. I love having my eyes opened to new ways of doing things or ideas I may have never thought of.
Why should someone hire you?
I put a huge emphasis on customer service. That seems like it should be a given, but unfortunately we all know that is not always the case. To me this means responding quickly to an after hours email, bringing a cheerful energy to every meeting and event and most of all, making sure every client truly feels special and knows we genuinely care that their party was a success.
And just for fun, what’s the one beauty product you can’t live without?
Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo! That stuff is a God send. I had a couple of friends tell my how great it was but I didn’t believe the hype. A few years ago my best friend got me some for my birthday and my life has not been the same since!
Lindsey brings so much approachability to Event Planning for kids! She works with any budget, and her favorite aspect of each event is the personalization factor. It’s clear how important it is to her to bring a smile to a child’s face and take away the stress that may fall on the parents! I can’t wait to work with her more in the future, we have some exciting events planned!
Next month Lindsey and I will be cohosting our first collaborative event, Brews & Bows. This event will be focused on teaching Dads simple and easy ways to style their daughters hair. The girls will be treated to a spa robe to wear during the event, a mocktail “mimosa bar” and a craft station where they can design a hair accessory for Dad to use in their hair later. Dad can relax and sip on a local beer provided by Vice District Brewing Company. Dad and Daughter can pose for a professional photo with an elaborate backdrop to show off Dad’s handy work and remember their fun day together. We’ll even be raffling off some take-home prizes! More event details to come!
Thanks, Lindsey! I’m so very excited to be brainstorming together! Two Lindsey/Lynzies are better than one!
