Living That Lakeview Life- M2 Boutique

One of my favorite things about our fabulous city? Our locally owned small boutiques! I love being able to find that perfect item that is unique for each occasion. Last year, one of my best girlfriends got married. For her engagement gift, I found the cutest personalized photo tiles to spell out her soon-to-be last name! This is just one example of the many finds I’ve walked away with from M2, this month’s ‘Living that Lakeview Life’ feature!

Angie and I spent some time in M2 finding our favorite things to share with you! Mel Nelson has shared her boutique with Southport and the Lakeview neighborhood for over a decade! From colorful jewelry displays to the latest trendy Cubs gear, M2 has it all.

2017-06-28_0002.jpgIt’s my go-to for Bridal and Bachelorette gifts as well as goofy niche gifts!  And with summer getaways ahead, I love being able to find a great beach bag, some sunnies, and a hat. How adorable is this pom-pom bag and this ‘Resting Beach Face‘ hat from C.C. Exclusives! With one stop, I can walk out ready to go!

I also love the array of housewares, especially as I gear up to decorate our new home! With serving platters, cookbooks, and wall decor from Mudpie, I see myself spending a little extra time here in the upcoming months!

With the Fourth of July around the corner, we both spotted the cutest Star-print Leather Blue Clutch from Moda Luxe that goes perfectly with my red mani! They had plenty of cute apparel to get you BBQ ready! Seriously, how adorable is this ‘USA Drinking Team’ koozie!?

Who else has a hard time shopping for the guys in their lives!? I’ve found so many great gifts for Jon here over the years. I’ve found him leather accessories, great personal care items, and plenty of Cubs gear!

We sat down with Mel Nelson, the owner of M2 Boutique, and asked her our five questions.

How long have you and your business been in the Lakeview area, and what made you decide to open it?

I have actually had my business for 14 years – 3 years on Armitage and coming up on my 11 year anniversary here on Southport!

What’s your favorite “secret” thing – what makes your business unique – what do only locals know about your business?

We are probably one of the last businesses that still handwrite all of our sales- Old School style! And we offer FREE gift wrapping!

Who’s your favorite Cubs player?

We get quite a few players in the boutique – but David Ross has been a big fan of us and we are of him!

What’s your favorite local spot to eat, drink or shop in Lakeview and what do you love about it?

It’s no secret! Crosby’s Kitchen has nicknamed me “Mascot Mel”! It’s my home away from home.

Give us a personal favorite item you carry: clothing, accessory, Cubs gear…whatever you love!

That is so hard to answer! I hand pick and buy every single item in the boutique – I’m just loving this seasons fun, bright, happy jewelry!

With some changes to the Southport Corridor, it’s so important maintain the established feel of this charming street! M2 is an absolute staple to the neighborhood! If your celebrating the grand reopening of the Southport Corridor or in the neighborhood, make sure you stop in and say hi to Mel and thank her for sharing her Lakeview story with us!
