Giving Tuesday-Simply From the Heart

This time of year, our minds can bounce from one obligation to the next. Although it can be full of fun, it is sometimes challenging to juggle errands and gift lists. During the Holiday season, it’s important to remain in the spirit of giving. Reflecting on giving thanks, I truly have so much to be thankful for. For me, this time of year serves as a reminder. I am reminded of my health, my family, and all the blessing I’ve been given. One way I hold on to that giving spirit is by getting involved with charity work and fundraising.

This year, on Giving Tuesday, I want to tell you about two very inspiring women, Jackelyn Gauci and Brooke Bolley. Jackelyn is the founder of the Non-Profit Organization, Simply From the Heart. Jackelyn founded Simply From the Heart in memory of Brooke, her best friend, after Brooke lost her battle against cancer.

Brooke was a Hairstylist by trade. While she was in the hospital receiving treatment after treatment for over a year, Jackelyn was by her side. As a true best friend, she’d do her hair and makeup in an attempt to lift her spirits. After loosing Brooke, Jackelyn saw the need to provide these small pampering services to other patients.

In Jackelyn’s words, “The small things in life that are often taken for granted are what we believe give patients the gift of strength.”

When I met Jackelyn, I immediately wanted to get involved. Not only is this close to my heart because of Brooke’s occupation, but also because I see the value in what looking good can do for someone’s inner strength. What better way to give back then to those fighting for their lives. Simply From the Heart has partnered with nine major hospitals in Chicago, Michigan, and California. The team of professionals and volunteers provide hairstyling, nail polish and makeup applications, and massage services. I am so very excited to become a volunteer myself!

While I wait for my Hospital clearance, I want to do all that I can to give back to this amazing organization. I’m holding a Beauty Drive through the end of the year, collecting unopened beauty supplies needed.
