Five Tips- Staying Motivated by Setting Goals

It’s here! 2017 is finally here! Personally, I love the new year. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big believer in goal setting and evaluation all year round, but there is something special about a fresh start. To me, the start of a new year is a perfect time to sit back and reflect on where you’re at and where you’d like to be. For some this relates personally, although for me, I change my personal goals regularly. My focus at the new year is all business. What did I accomplish last year? Where do I want my business to go this year? Why am I focused on this as a specific goal? When should I expect to reach this goal? And most importantly, how am I going to reach this goal?

One of my biggest goals for 2017?

Hosting Industry Specific Networking Events and Workshops for Like-minded Independent Beauty Professionals.

My first big step towards that goal?

My January 30th workshop here in Chicago will be the first in a series of three. I’ll be touching on goal setting during each workshop, sharing my methods of setting attainable goals in business. I’m also hosting a Networking event for Independent Beauty Professionals on February 20th at All Natural Chicago. After open networking, I’ll be inviting two of my absolute favorite women to talk on how collaboration has helped them in reaching their own goals. These two, Jackelyn Kastanis; the founder of the Non-Profit Simply From the Heart, and Robin Wilson; the owner of Style by Bravura, will inspire you to leave competition at the door. They both have such positivity and have truly helped others along the way.

If you’re in Chicago and an Independent Beauty Professional, please join us! Tickets for my workshops are available here and tickets for our Networking event are available here. Your five dollar donation will be benefiting Simply From the Heart.

Have you given serious thought to your 2017 goals? Here are Five Tips in setting goals for this year.

Evaluate Where your Business is Honestly

Take a look at where you’re at in your business and what accomplishments you achieved in the previous year. Were you able to reach the goals you previously set for yourself? If not, what held you back? By being honest with yourself, you’ll be able to set attainable goals you’re more likely to achieve.

Find your Motivation for Each Goal

When you start your list of goals, think about your motivation for each one. One goal may be motivated by a stronger force than another. For me, I know that my motivation is strongest when my goal comes from a place of passion. If I set a goal I’m not truly passionate about, I’ll struggle to find the motivation. Prioritize the goals you have true passion for.

Break Up Bigger Goals into Smaller Ones

Looking at a list of many goals can be very overwhelming! After a first draft, pull out your biggest goals for the year. These become quarterly goals. Divide the year into quarters and pick which goals to focus on per quarter. Instead of becoming overwhelmed by all there is ahead, you’ll feel accomplished all year!

Focus on One Goal at a Time

Motivation often becomes tough when there is too much distraction. Breaking up big goals for me means one goal at a time. I take my big goals, break them into quarterly goals, break those into monthly goals, and sometimes even weekly goals. I know this may sound intense, but it’s actually a better way for me to focus. If I’m looking at what needs done this week to reach my biggest goal, I don’t become distracted and I walk into the following week feeling on top of my game.

Give Yourself a Specific Timeline

Think about when you want to achieve your goal and why that timeline matters to you. For me, this blog will be one year old June 1st. This specific time frame structured one of my goals for this year. I want to host three workshops and one networking event by June 1st. Because I had this date in mind I was able to structure smaller goals, like completing my website merge of LS Hair and Makeup Design before my first workshop. Setting hard dates holds us accountable to our goals.
