Dream Boards and Kumbaya, Anyone?

Reflecting on all I have to be Thankful for is a huge eye opener. I am so proud of this Blog, it’s starting to become the vision I imagined. I am so happy to have such loyal, supportive, and amazing clients that have allowed me the growth I’ve experienced professionally.

When I take a stroll down memory lane to 2012 when I decided to become Independent and navigate my way through owning a business, I truly never imagined all the doors ahead. Some I walked through and never looked back, some I closed with clarity.

One thing I know for sure? I want to share all of my insight and experience with other Beauty Professionals who dream of doing the same. I also want to bring together like-minded goal-setters, people who know the true benefit of collaborating. I am so excited to announce my first set of Workshops designed to do just that!

My fears and concerns the day I walked out of my comfortable and supportive Salon environment almost stopped me from making the best decision in my career. I want to share with you the steps I took before leaving the Salon I originally grew my clientele in, once I launched my own business, and each and every day since to continue to grow and now maintain my fantastic clientele.

Over the course of these three Workshops, I’ll discuss the fundamentals of success as an Independent Beauty Professional, including my own learning curves and discoveries. From contacting clients directly, setting prices, marketing yourself, ordering products and supplies, to seeking out education, customer service, and time management.

On January 30th, we’ll start with the basics including contacting clients, pricing, and marketing. Even if you’ve already started your business, this Workshop will open the door for honest discussion on why you decided to work for yourself, and where you want you business to go. Regardless of experience, we can all learn new ways to attract the right client, keep that client coming back, and increasing our income by raising our pricing in appropriate ways.

February 27th’s Workshop will dive a little deeper, discussing the challenges faced in being self-employed. I will never forget the headaches and tears that came with my first few years of tax planning. Liability Insurance? We didn’t really talk about any of these things in Beauty School. Even some of the more basic concepts of managing your business can be stressful. Product ordering took me a while to get the hang of but was so necessary when my schedule really filled in. Who has time for weekly, or daily, supply store runs? Not me. Time management when you’re wearing so many hats can be tough, so I’ll share some of the systems I use to keep myself on schedule.

Last but not least, on March 20th we’ll be talking about growth. We’ll be coming out of what can traditionally be a slow period for us  here in Chicago in the Beauty Industry. What better time to really lock in on what it is we see for ourselves through 2017? We’ll also talk more about the benefits of Education, just in time for America’s Beauty Show later that week! The key to success comes from the happiness we share with the clients who sit in our chair. The way we give back to them is by educating ourselves with the latest and greatest and offering them the best customer service we have to give.

While there are so many aspects of my business I love, I greatly miss the opportunity to connect with a Salon team. I was that girl who loved Salon meetings, not because I wanted to talk about cleaning out the break room refrigerator but because I wanted to sit in a circle and make Dream Boards. (Honestly, I actually make a Dream Board each year. If you’re into that too, we should just be friends!) I promise, we won’t actually sing Kumbaya or make Dream Boards, but these Workshops are intended to fill that gap we sometimes experience without others around working towards the same goals. As Soloprenuers, it can sometimes be lonely and frustrating to not have someone to talk to who truly understands the journey. Let’s work together and fill that gap!

Where ever you’re at in your business, join me and other like-minded beauty professionals looking to collaborate and grow. To register for one, two, or (hopefully!) all three Workshops, click here!
