Beat the Winter Blues-Mainstream Boutique

We are officially in to my least favorite part of the Chicago year. Everything (and everyone, really) is grey. Don’t get me wrong, I love grey as a neutral decor option or a fun manicure shade, but when the whole world looks grey, I get really sad. I’m constantly trying to find ways to brighten up these couple months, from my wardrobe to my workout to my hair and makeup routines.

If you’re a client of mine in the salon, I’ve probably mentioned a few of my favs to you over the last couple weeks. I’ve also probably shared with you my “mental spring trick” where I convince myself each year that spring begins in March. While technically the first day of Spring is March 20th, I’m no fool. I know realistically March tends to be a rough ride. By convincing myself shorts and sandals are right around the corner, and usually planning a Va-Ca, I make it through each year!

Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Beat the Winter Blues products with you! I’ve also partnered with two of my favorite Chicago boutiques to share some cold weather winter accessory options.

First up, I’m showing you four beautiful pieces from Mainstream Boutique. The best part about these four pieces? The versatility. Two hats for those ‘not styling my hair today’ days and two scarves for when you’re in public but really want to be under a warm blanket! Literally so many options with these four, I’ve been wearing each non-stop since receiving them!

My first duo, the CC Confetti Beanie- $22 and the (matching) CC Confetti Infinity Scarf- $28, is a perfect cold weather option! These two are lightweight and breathable, providing warmth while I’m making my way to the El but preventing me from overheating once I’m on.

I love this neutral color, specifically because I’m able to wear them together without feeling too match-matchy or as separates with any of my other outerwear, including this awesome blazer. How much do you love elbow patches? I’m obsessed!2017-01-18_0008.jpg

My second hat has that glam factor! No one would ever believe you’ve hidden yesterday’s hair underneath. I love the color combo of this Felt Hat- $28 because the detailing really stands out! It’s also the perfect size, I’ve struggled with wide brim hats and this one sits perfectly!

The Reversible Plaid Blanket Scarf- $32 is the definition of versatility! One side perfectly pairs with all of my beige/brown outfits, standing out with a navy and hunter green plaid pattern. I love the color against my blonde hair, it really pops. It’s a great size, truly a blanket scarf! I’m always freezing. This will be used in movie theaters, ice cream (Jeni’s = heaven) parlors, and bars alike for the next few months!

The versatility factor plays in here, the reverse side is classic black and white! Although I’ll probably wear it more the other way, I’m obsessed with the contrast against brighter colors like this red jacket! I’ve also paired it with my black down winter coat (boring, I know) and love the pop of detail it adds with the pattern!

How do you keep life fun during these gloomy days? As a hairstylist, I appreciate days off from styling my own hair. A great hat paired with a cute scarf keeps me pulled together when I’m just not feeling it. If you haven’t been to Mainstream Boutique, 4357 N Lincoln Ave, check them out! Stop in and say hi to Cheryl, the owner, or Lindsey, the manager. They also have items available for purchase online here. Let them know I sent you and which items you’re looking for, they’ll help you out! And for seasonal updates and tons of great styling options, follow them on Instagram here.

Thank you so much, Mainstream!

Stay tuned, next week I’m sharing some of my favorite cold weather beauty products!
