Beat the Winter Blues- Beauty Products for Survival

February is around the corner. With the mild start we’ve had to 2017, I’m remaining optimistic. However, February and March aren’t always kind to us here in the Midwest.

I notice our dry weather first with my hair and skin. Our humidifier is on my husband’s dresser and I’m constantly carrying around my water bottle to keep hydrated. In some ways, there is only so much we can do, but don’t forget about your beauty routine! It may be time for a few changes!

Here are some of my absolute favorite products to help me survive these dry, winter months. Some are new, some are tried and true, but they’re all helpful in keeping you glowing when you’re wishing for those warmer days!

First up, my makeup bag additions. This Lip Shine from RMS Beauty is my new favorite product. A client of mine recommended it after I complimented her pretty lip shade, and she was totally right about how amazing it is! Sheer, moisturizing, and just the right amount of color!

I love cream based products in the winter. My skin drinks up my moisturizer in the morning and I am always feeling dry. Ditching my powder based bronzer for Dew the Hoola from Benefit helps me create a glow, even though I haven’t had much sun! For that “just came off the slopes” flush, I love Stila’s Convertible Color! It’s build-able, so a little in the morning and a quick retouch before heading out in the evening keeps me feeling vibrant!

To cleanse or not to cleanse? One of the biggest culprits of dry hair? Over cleansing! This happens in two ways, washing your hair too frequently or using harsh cleansers. In the winter, I’m hyper-aware of both. I know you probably know how much I love DevaCurl for my Curly Girls, but No-Poo Original is my go to! This Conditioning Cleanser is the real deal, and my straight strands love it too. Because it’s sulfate free, it doesn’t lather, which takes a little getting used to. You’ll notice the difference after just one wash!

On the days I don’t wash my hair, I use a dry shampoo. This allows me to refresh the style without removing the natural oils from my scalp my hair needs. I love AG Dry Shampoo because it’s light but powerful. I use the Brunette shade in the winter to add a little more richness to my darker roots.

If you’re on the dry side like me, sometimes you just need a little extra. 7 Seconds from Unite is one of my tried and true favorites. I’ve used this detangler for years, and haven’t found anything I love more! It’s light weight but keeps my hair static free! Because my hair is highlighted, I stay away from any oil-based hydrators that can sometimes deposit on to my highlights. This leave-in leaves nothing but moisture!

And for those highlights, I make sure to use Olaplex every time. This three step system keeps the bonds of my hair strong while the lightener is processing and closes the cuticle after my color. With Number 3 in my shower at home, I can keep my color bright and my hair healthy until my next sesh! And if you’ve seen me in the last couple months, you know it can sometimes be a while before I can actually get to my own hair color! 2017-01-27_0002.jpg

How do you keep yourself looking and feeling great when the weather isn’t so kind? What products are your must haves? Next week I have a few more accessory options that will keep you looking great and transition you into Spring! Stay tuned!
